A nossa viagem a Itália

Um desses filmes foi “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty“.
Estávamos rendidos à beleza do local.

Our trip to Italy

Sometimes, we do things by impulse. When you realise, you’re at the movie theatre watching the same movie again. One of those movies was “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty“. That movie is the reason why we are writing this blog post and sharing these images with you today.
A trip to Italy was in our hearts for a long time, but we never got the chance to do it. Until we saw Walter Mitty for the second time. After Marina’s grandmother passed away a few days before, we decided that it was time for us to get our stuff and head somewhere to clear our minds and think about life. We packed our bags, took only our film cameras, stuffed our pockets with rolls of film and headed East.
That destination was Santa Margherita Ligure, home of Erin + Gabri – who we met in Madrid last October.
We arrived pretty late on Thursday, but the next morning we woke up to a wonderful sun and a stunning view: the Mediterranean on one side and Santa Margherita down there. We were overwhelmed with all that beauty. Erin, Gabri and the little Virginia made us feel right at home;  we spent a great deal of time talking about photography with a good cup of tea in our hands and a surreal view to the sea. We hiked to the top of the Park of Portofino, climbed the montain, strolled through Santa Margherita Ligure, Portofino and Camogli. We saw amazingly serene landscapes and we wished we didn’t have to come home.
We didn’t have great expectations for Italy: we wanted to eat pasta, pizza and ice-cream. Even without any plans, we ended up having a dream experience, filled with people who wanted to welcome us and feed us simple and unpretentious, but absolutely delicious food. We had Valentine’s Day dinner at Cà di Gòsita where, in the middle of wonderful food and great company, we found a portuguese Galo de Barcelos! And we got invited to Mirko’s for dinner the next day, that apparently would include focaccia, farinata and pizza – all cooked in a wood fire oven. Unquestionably one of the best pizzas we ever had and that we’ll hold forever as the pizza with Italia flavour.

We came home with our batteries charged but with an immense will to come back.
