Yosemite engagement photographer: Sara & Mathias

Let’s go back to 2019: Marina and I traveled half way across the world to photograph Mel and John’s wedding in California. Sara was one of Mel’s bridesmaids and after that incredible weekend, Sara went back home and proposed to Mathias that same day. A year later, we get an email in our inbox that read something like “Our wedding will be taking place on my parents’s property in Groveland, CA, which is about an hour’s drive outside of Yosemite National Park. While not in the park itself, it is a very woody area and the event will be taking place outdoors. Would this be something you’d be interested in?”

I started shaking and yelled “MARINA! Do you remember Sara from Mel and John’s wedding?”

– Yeah, of course! How wouldn’t I?

We just got an email from her. They’re getting married in Yosemite.

– That’s awesome!

And they’re asking if we’re interested in going there to photograph their celebration. In. Freaking. Yosemite!

– YES! Tell them YES!

And so I did.

I flew out to California a few days before their wedding, met with them at Sara’s parents’ and we then drove down to Yosemite Valley to photograph them.

I’ve said it countless times before, but Yosemite never disappoints. It’s such a majestic and magical place on Earth.

After more than a decade of dreaming of photographing a wedding in Yosemite, that bucketlist item is finally marked as “DONE!”. (but please do get in touch if you’re planning a celebration in Yosemite or in any of the beautiful National Parks. My bags are always packed!)

Stay tuned for their wedding photos, coming soon to this blog.

Upon returning to Sara’s parent’s property, the road leading up to their house was flooded with beautiful light and I couldn’t help my self and asked them to stop the car for a few final photos before the light was totally gone. It was so worth it!

ARE YOU CURRENTLY PLANNING YOUR ENGAGEMENT, WEDDING OR ELOPEMENT? I WOULD LOVE TO CREATE MEMORIES FOR YOU.

If you’re planning a maternity, engagement, elopement or wedding in Yosemite, I’d love to be a part of it. Yosemite will forever be my happy place and the opportunity to document your love in such an incredible and special setting would be the icing on the cake. My bags are always packed and my cameras are always ready.

Here are 5 things to consider when planning your engagement, elopement or wedding in Yosemite:

Timing

Yosemite is known for its spectacular lighting and scenic views, so timing your photo session around sunrise or sunset can result in stunning images.

Location

Yosemite has many iconic locations, such as Half Dome, El Capitan, and Yosemite Falls, that can be used as the backdrop for your photo session.

Clothing

Choose outfits that are comfortable and suitable for the outdoors, but also reflect your personal style. Avoid wearing clothing with logos or graphics, as they can detract from the natural beauty of Yosemite.

Weather

Yosemite’s weather can change quickly, so it’s important to be prepared for any conditions. Consider bringing layers, a hat, and sunscreen to stay comfortable during your photo session.

Permits

Some areas of Yosemite may require a permit for photography, so it’s important to research and obtain the necessary permits before your session.
