Joana and Tiago’s Douro Royal Valley wedding

A Small and Intimate Event

Joana and Tiago’s Douro Royal Valley wedding was a celebration of love in one of the most stunning locations imaginable. With a guest list limited to immediate family and a few close friends, the couple’s wedding was a perfect example of how a small and intimate celebration can be just as magical as a larger event.

A Magical Setting

The hotel’s tiny rooftop garden offered incredible views over the valley, making for a truly magical setting. As the sun began to set on a late summer evening, they exchanged their vows in a simple, laidback ceremony that perfectly captured the essence of their love.

Capturing the Essence of Love

As a wedding photographer, I’ve had the pleasure of capturing countless celebrations of love. But there’s something truly special about photographing tiny weddings like Joana and Tiago’s. With a smaller guest list, I’m able to get up close and personal with everyone, capturing those tiny moments in between that might otherwise be missed.

ARE YOU CURRENTLY PLANNING YOUR ENGAGEMENT, WEDDING OR ELOPEMENT? I WOULD LOVE TO CREATE MEMORIES FOR YOU.

If you’re planning a maternity, engagement, elopement or wedding in the Douro Royal Valley, I’d love to be a part of it. The Douro valley is an incredible and special setting. My bags are always packed and my cameras are always ready.

Here are 5 things to consider when planning your engagement, elopement or wedding in the Douro wine region:

Weather and Season

The weather in the Douro wine region can vary throughout the year, so it's important to consider the season when planning your wedding. Summers can be hot and dry, while winters can be rainy and cooler. Spring and fall are generally more mild and offer a comfortable climate for an outdoor wedding. Consider the weather patterns and temperatures when choosing your wedding date.

Accommodation

When planning your wedding in the Douro wine region, it's important to consider your guests' accommodation. The region offers a range of options, from luxurious hotels to charming guesthouses, but availability can be limited during peak wedding season. Consider booking accommodations in advance and provide guests with a range of options that fit their budgets and preferences.

Venue and location

The Douro wine region offers a variety of stunning venues for your wedding, from vineyard estates to luxurious hotels. When choosing your venue, consider the size of your guest list and whether the location is easily accessible for your guests. Some venues may require transportation from nearby towns or cities, so consider the logistics of getting your guests to and from the location.

Local cuisine and wine

One of the highlights of getting married in the Douro wine region is the incredible cuisine and wine. Traditional Portuguese dishes and local wines are a must-try for guests. Consider incorporating local specialties into your menu and offering a range of Douro wines for guests to taste and enjoy. Don't forget to schedule a wine tasting or tour of a local vineyard for your guests to experience the region's wine culture firsthand.

Local customs and traditions

The Douro wine region is rich in local customs and traditions that can add a special touch to your wedding day. From traditional music and dance to handmade crafts and textiles, consider incorporating local customs into your wedding day to give your guests a unique and memorable experience. Be sure to work with a wedding planner or coordinator who is familiar with the local customs and traditions to ensure that everything goes smoothly on your big day.
