USA trip: Death Valley

O Vale da Morte (Death Valley) é um lugar verdadeiramente intrigante, especialmente quando se vem do vale de Yosemite/Parque Nacional das Sequoias onde tudo é maravilhosamente verde. À medida que viajamos pelo vale a dentro, conseguimos ver os picos brancos da Serra Nevada nas nossas costas, e sentirmo-nos a afastar da abundância enquanto mergulhamos no deserto. Milhas e milhas de absolutamente nada, de terra e ervas daninhas, montanhas secas e aparentemente desprovidas de qualquer sinal de vida. O Vale da Morte foi a metáfora perfeita para mim: estar na estrada, a olhar para as montanhas verdes e brancas, conseguia ver a abundância, mas sentia que não importava o quanto caminhasse, nunca lá chegaria. Uma estrada aparentemente infinita a levar-te para lado absolutamente nenhum era a única que tínhamos e tínhamos que confiar no mapa – tirando o facto de não haver mapa para a nossa vida. Ainda que o Vale da Morte seja um lugar aparentemente inóspito, ajudou-me a encontrar vida em mim.

Death Valley truly is an intriguing place, especially if you come from the Yosemite Valley/Sequoia National Park where everything is beautifully green. As you travel deep into the valley, you can see the white peaks of Sierra Nevada on your back, and feel like you are leaving the abundance behind and diving into the desert. Miles and miles of nothing, of dirt and weeds, of dried out mountains, apparently drained of life. Death Valley was the perfect metaphor for me: standing on the road and looking at the green and white mountains I could see the abundance, but felt that no matter how much I walked, I would never get there. An infinite road apparently taking you to absolutely nowhere was the only road to be traveled and we just had to trust the map – except that there is no map for our lives. Although Death Valley is apparently inhospitable, it helped me find life inside of me.
